As frequent questions come in that are not addressed elsewhere, they will be posted here to keep everyone informed.

The 3-D website should be able to answer all questions regarding the use of the 3-D system software. Click here to go to the 3-D website.

  • Software License- How many computers can I  the NewAge software on?
    >>> The system comes with two licenses for two computers. Many surveyors like me use a desktop and a laptop. If you need a third or fourth license, they are available from 3D Inspection at additional cost. ($179 for each additional license)

  • Force5 Conversion- Do you have a program that can convert my Force5 "Item Choices" file to the 3-D NewAge system?
    >>> Yes, we have been receiving many inquiries about converting from Force5. A FREE conversion program is now available for anyone who has the 3-D System which will convert and save all Force5 Item choices, comments etc as 3-D form sets. This will save you many hours of re-keying findings/recommendations that you have used over the years.

  • Voice Recognition- Can I use Voice recognition software  with the 3-D Focus or regular edition?  (specific question was "Dragon")
    >>> All Windows based products should work with 3-D software including "Dragon".

  • CANADA regulations- Can I change the report contents to reflect Canada's standards and regulations instead of USCG CFR's?
    >>> Yes, any part of the report or any document can be easily changed to reflect local rules and regulations regardless of the location. ie Canada, Australia, UK,  etc.

  • Letterhead-Can I use my real letterhead with the NewAge system?
    >>> Yes, the Cover page can be modified if you always use your letter head. If you use letterhead sometimes for hard copies and scanned letterhead for e-mailed reports, the latest NewAge version has two different cover page formats available so you don't have to keep changing them back and forth. Another real time saver.

  • Checklist-Can I create a Checklist to use for a survey or use if my PDA fails?
    >>>The 3D system has a built in Checksheet system that can be customized to your liking. Simply print the Checksheet when in the Report Writer screen using File>Checksheet. You can optionally customize the checklist in Preferences. You may also want to keep a copy in your car in case your PDA fails or you want to take handwritten notes.
    >NOTE:  You can also easily create your own customized checksheet by simply placing a period as the only character for each line that you want to appear on your checklist while in Report Writer and save the report as a checklist.

  • Use of Pocket PC-Do I have to use a Pocket PC (also known as a PDA)?
    >>> No,  you do not. The system comes with the Pocket PC software at no additional charge but it is not necessary to use with the system. The
NewAge desk top software is very robust and will still provide you many efficiencies and time savings in writing your reports from your hand written notes.

  • Narrative reports-Can I use a narrative style in writing my reports?
    >>> Yes, you most certainly can. The system supports both narrative style as well as line item style reports. Remember, any line left blank while in the report writer, will not appear in the printout. You could simply choose an appropriate subheading to write your paragraph in narrative format while leaving the other subheadings blank.

  • Photo pages-Can I put all my photos on a separate page instead of spreading them out in the report?
    >>> Yes, the latest version has a separate optional photo page document for all your photos. There is no limit to the number of photo pages and you can include a description below each photo if you choose. Photos can be sized to your preference. This works well if you use a high speed laser printer for your reports and a separate color printer for your photos.

  • Can I attach scanned images of Hull Rubbings or USCG Documentation etc?
    >>>
Yes, copies of anything can be scanned and attached to the report either in front of the report or after the report. The trick is to scan the document and save it as a .JPG file, that way the Report Writer will see it when inserting the image into the report document. If you want a full page scanned document paste it into one of the Misc documents A or B depending if you want it Before or After the detail report. You can also scan in your signature or credential seal or stamp and insert into the signature page for a very professional look.
